Memory Foam Mattresses Will Make Santa's Job Easier

Santa has a really hard job to do with delivering presents to the good boys and girls all over the world in one night on his trusted reindeer. As parents or grandparents you can make his job easier by making sure the children get off to sleep as soon as possible and this can be done if you use a memory foam mattress. Once the children are tucked up on these mattresses they will fall asleep, even though they will be so excited.

This will allow Santa to either climb down the chimney or through the front door if access to the chimney is not available and allowing him to visit all the other boys and girls easier as he won't be have to worry about waking up the children.

The Memory Foam Mattress Need Attention Too

As Christmas Day fast approaches households are busy preparing the house by either giving it a good 'winter' clean. Such tasks can include hoovering the carpet where the sofa has hidden alot of dust and dirt that is now exposed as the living room has been re-arranged, to sorting and clearing out the cupboards to make way for all that festive food.

Alot of households also prepare for overnight visitors or those staying over Christmas and we of course are not talking about Santa. If you have visitors then make sure the spare room or guest room is ready with either flipping those mattresses, although this is not needed if you have invested in memory foam mattresses for the bedrooms.

As the tree is decorated and presents wrapped, why not think about the other rooms and getting them prepared. If you know guests are coming why not wrap your memory foam mattress with a cover that can not only provide extra comfort but will also protect the memory foam mattress from wear and general use over Christmas and throughout the next year.

You could also think about protecting the sofa, especially if this is not a wipe clean sofa and invest in some throws. If you are planning a party or house full of guests accidents can happen with a dropped glass or party plate and the more the sofa is covered the better the protection.

Plan and prepare for guests and Santa to make sure your Christmas and new year is as relaxed as possible.

Memory Foam Mattresses For That Inventor - Who Was......

Did you guess who the inventor was? Thomas Edison - the famous American Inventor who is actually known for actually disliking sleep so much. He survived on as little as 5 hours sleep a day, which is probably why he has1093 US patents to his name.

Edison with his most popular invention
Some of his inventions include the motion picture camera, light bulb, dictaphone, the radio and of course he improved the telephone by his invention of the carbon microphone. Some of his inventions are not originally his - but improvements of earlier inventions.

With all these inventions - we're surprised he didn't need to sleep more and we think if the memory foam mattresses were around in his day he would probably have wanted to sleep more.

Famous People Who Might Have Needed A Memory Foam Mattress

If you are one of those people who enjoy your sleep and have no trouble in getting to sleep - spare a thought for those who seem to spend their nights counting sheep. However there are some famous people who even if they had owned a memory foam mattress they wouldn't be in bed, asleep long enough to benefit.

Napoleon Bonaparte is said to have survived on 4 hours sleep and could take short naps of 30 minutes and wake energised and refreshed. Even after long battles he would be able to carry on and sleep little.

Some more famous people who only had a few hours sleep - can you name the famous American inventor who only slept for 5 hours a day?

Improve Posture With A Memory Foam Mattress

If tyou feel your body slouching when you are looking at your computer or laptop then you should think about taking steps to improve your posture. There are several options for the office and home like chair supports and memory foam mattresses. Here are a few suggestions:

Investing in a good chair - this needs to support your back and you should sit into the chair and not at the end of the seat or in the middle. Consider an extra back support or pillow that will fall off when you move your back and will be more of a prominent incident to improve your posture.

Avoid sitting crosslegged - We all do this and even with the best intentions we naturally end up swinging legs from time to time and ending up sitting cross legged or even crossing ankles.

Set calendar reminders to check your posture from hour to hour if need be - or at least a postit note on your screen to remind you to sit correctly. Eventually it will become second nature but while you are getting into it use the reminders.

At home it might prove more difficult as we tend to relax more at home and this is when posture is challenged. The use of back supports on chairs are good, trying sitting at the table to eat dinners.

Why not end the day with one last attempt to improve posture and make sure your mattress doesn't sag and your pillows are as comfortable and support your neck and spine. If your mattress is old and you have tried flipping it over think about investing in a new memory foam mattress.

Essential Bedroom Planning - Get A Memory Foam Mattress

Following on from our 'Sleep Advice' blog posts (which we hope you have found a great read), it is also essential to make sure the room you sleep in is as relaxed and comfortable as possible. There's no point in being relaxed and chilled out if your bedroom and sleeping space is full of vibrant colours and bright lights.

As a person, you might simply be able to drop off to sleep without any aids but as life goes one, most people find that are either still thinking of work, personal or emotional issues and therefore need all the help you can get to unwind. So lets make sure your sleeping quarters are as efficient as possible.

Keep the room clutter free - no-one wants to step over (or trip) over clothes as they start to unwind. Place clothes away and if possible, close wardrobe drawers as this will also keep the number of colours and contrasts to a minimum. If you are about to fall asleep, make your all the clothes are off the bed as even a memory foam mattress wouldn't stop the discomfort of landing on a shoe or belt buckle.

Reduce contrasting colours - Try to make sure the bedding and curtains match and are not contrasting. Also keep lampshades and light shades and any rugs to a similar colours or in a lighter shade. It doesn't matter what colour the mattress is as this is covered, but if your duvet is bright orange and your curtains lime green for example you might be in for a colourful nights sleep.

Try and reduce as much natural light through curtains and blinds. If any natural light can get in, this will have an effect on your body clock as it may assume its daylight. Sounds obvious, but even that little tear or kink in the blinds can have an effect on your mind and body clock

Finally - Turn any electrical items like TV's or stereos completely off if you need to watch these to unwind in the bedroom before sleeping, even if you have a comfortable memory foam mattress. Apart from the electrical and safety aspect of switching off appliances - any red standby lights or computer/laptop screens can still create some light and therefore add to the complication of getting off to sleep naturally.

Memory Foam Mattress: Sleep Advice Part Three

Welcome back to the final instalment of our sleep advice blogs. Throughout the month we have been posting ways people can help to improve their sleeping habits and environment. By now you should know how to get comfortable for sleep; whether it be on a memory foam mattress, under a big thick quilt or thin sheet or wearing a sleeping eye mask. but what else can you do before even getting into bed to help you fall asleep? Our final blog post in our sleep advice postings contains one large point on how to relax before bedtime.

8. Before going to bed, having a relaxing ritual to do that will relax and unwind you and therefore help you get to sleep easier and quicker is a good idea. Here are some ideas of activities to try:

  • Reading anything from a good novel or a trashy magazine can help you relax before trying to sleep and is a good way to help you forget about any stress from the day.
  • A great way to relax both the body and mind is with a nice warm bath.
  • Relax with your favourite hobby such as doing a crossword, playing a game, doing a jigsaw or watching TV. Do an activity that will help you unwind before going upstairs to sleep.
  • If your mind is racing with things to do the next day then make a list of tasks to clear your head.
  • Whilst heavy food a bad idea before going to bed, a light snack can help calm the brain and allow you to sleep better. Good examples include a small bowl of cereal or a light sandwich.
We hope our sleep advice has been helpful and that you are all aware of things you can do if you are struggling with sleep issues, we don't want that new memory foam mattress to be wasted and not slept on after all. If you have any more advice then we'd love to hear it, why not come and send us a Tweet on the Cosy Mattress Twitter.

Memory Foam Mattress: Sleep Advice Part Two

We hope you enjoyed part one of our sleep advice posts and that we've helped at least one of you get a good night's sleep where you would have struggled before. In part two we are going to take a look at your bedroom environment and other factors that could be keeping you up at night. Just because you have a really comfy memory foam mattress doesn't mean you will fall straight asleep if your bedroom environment is wrong. Let's continue with number five...

5. A dark room is the perfect sleeping conditions so you have to do what you can to reduce any light. This could be from the street lamp outside your window or the glow from a TV. To combat this there are a number of things you can do such as putting up blackout curtains, wearing an eye mask to block out light or turning off TV's, computers or phones that emit a glow.

6. There is nothing like a sudden noise to jolt you from a good sleep or a constant alarm going off to really ruin your night. External noises such as neighbours or traffic can all have an effect on your ability to sleep well. So what can you do about these external noises? Well try masking them with a fan or soothing sounds such as a relaxation CD. Another example is noisy springs which squeak every time you move during the night. While that ones easy, just invest in a cheap memory foam mattress and do away with springs completely.

7. Your bedroom temperature can play a huge part in how you sleep, if you're too hot then try using thin linen sheets and if it's too cold you could try a room heater. A memory foam mattress can also help since they help with your body temperature to keep you cool or warm.

Sleep well everyone, more Cosy Mattress tips coming soon.

2. If you wake up and go to sleep at the same time everyday and have a regular sleep schedule, you will feel more refreshed and energised for the day. You should experiment with different bedtimes to find out how much sleep you need.

Compliment your Memory Foam Mattress with a Tencel Mattress Cover

So you’ve now got your memory foam mattress and enjoying the extra comfort it gives and getting a great night sleep every night. You may now think that you’ve got the ultimate sleeping setup and that there is nothing else that you can buy to make your bed any comfier or more effective. There is one more addition that you can make to your bed though and that is by adding a Tencel Mattress Cover.

A Tencel mattress cover, also known as a topper, is placed over your memory foam mattress and has many benefits for your bed. Tencel fabric is made by extracting Eucalyptus wood pulp and it is 100% bio-degradable and 100% chemical and toxin free. . The wood is harvested from sustainable tree farms. The main benefit of this fabric is that it is very smooth and so is very soft to the touch, so is perfect for use as a mattress cover.

So apart from being nice and soft, what are the benefits of a Tencel mattress cover to your new memory foam mattress? There are many different benefits, some of which will help you get a good night sleep and others which will help to protect your foam mattress.

The fibres that make up the cover will not irritate your skin so you know you can have a comfy sleep all night. If you have sensitive skin, some fabrics like cotton and polyester can irate but the smooth fabrics of Tencel will not have this effect. If you get hot easily during the night and perspire a lot, then another benefit is that the Tencel Fabric is 50% more absorbent than cotton fabric so will cool you down as you sleep. This also helps to balance your body temperature since Tencel fabric breathes naturally and will help regulate your body temperature to ensure that you will be warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

No matter whether you have bought a cheap memory foam mattress or an expensive one, it’s a good idea to protect it and adding a Tencel mattress topper can help with this. The topper takes most of the wear of general every night use, such as perspiration, so this will reduce any possible damage done to your mattress. Another benefit is that because of the increased moisture absorption of the cover, you are protecting your mattress from bacteria. Bacteria require a warm and moist environment to grow but because the cover is bacteria resistant it is not present so you will be protected.

All of the Cosy Mattress memory foam mattresses can be purchased with a Tencel Mattress cover and also memory foam pillows so with Cosy Mattress, you can get a cosy night sleep all night, every night.

Memory Foam Mattress helps the whole body

You’ve probably heard how a memory foam mattress supports the body to make sure you get the perfect night’s sleep, but did you know how much of the body is actually supported by memory foam and the health benefits a memory foam mattress can provide?

As mentioned, the main benefit of a memory foam mattress is the all over body support that is offered. Since the foam moulds to the shape of the body, each and every part of your body is supported all night. If you suffer from any aching in the neck, shoulder, back or knees then memory foam matresses can help to relax and protect the joints during the night.

Memory foam is particularly suited for anyone with back issues as the foam fully supports both the upper and lower back, even as you move around throughout the night. Since the human backbone is actually curved, a Sleepshaper memory foam mattress moulds to adapt to the shape of the spine. This means that you will be sleeping in the most relaxed position possible all night. This is great for anyone with an existing back ache or to help prevent any back problems in elderly people.

For people who partake in regular sporting or physical activities, a memory foam mattress has two benefits. As well as offering a relaxed, comfortable and supportive sleep after exercise, the memory foam is also useful during any injuries. If you injure your knee or elbow during sport then the ‘shaping’ nature of memory foam helps to create a mould to rest any painful joints or muscles.

If you are busy on your feet all day and suffer from an urge to move in order to stop an uncomfortable or odd sensation in your leg when you rest at night, then you may suffer from restless leg syndrome.  This can cause many restless nights and memory foam is known to help with this problem.

So when you feel those aches and pains in the body from a long evening’s exercise or are suffering from a bad back from sitting in an uncomfortable chair all day, think of the great night sleep you could be having on a cheap memory foam mattress from Cosy Mattress.
