Memory Foam Mattresses For That Inventor - Who Was......

Did you guess who the inventor was? Thomas Edison - the famous American Inventor who is actually known for actually disliking sleep so much. He survived on as little as 5 hours sleep a day, which is probably why he has1093 US patents to his name.

Edison with his most popular invention
Some of his inventions include the motion picture camera, light bulb, dictaphone, the radio and of course he improved the telephone by his invention of the carbon microphone. Some of his inventions are not originally his - but improvements of earlier inventions.

With all these inventions - we're surprised he didn't need to sleep more and we think if the memory foam mattresses were around in his day he would probably have wanted to sleep more.

Famous People Who Might Have Needed A Memory Foam Mattress

If you are one of those people who enjoy your sleep and have no trouble in getting to sleep - spare a thought for those who seem to spend their nights counting sheep. However there are some famous people who even if they had owned a memory foam mattress they wouldn't be in bed, asleep long enough to benefit.

Napoleon Bonaparte is said to have survived on 4 hours sleep and could take short naps of 30 minutes and wake energised and refreshed. Even after long battles he would be able to carry on and sleep little.

Some more famous people who only had a few hours sleep - can you name the famous American inventor who only slept for 5 hours a day?

Improve Posture With A Memory Foam Mattress

If tyou feel your body slouching when you are looking at your computer or laptop then you should think about taking steps to improve your posture. There are several options for the office and home like chair supports and memory foam mattresses. Here are a few suggestions:

Investing in a good chair - this needs to support your back and you should sit into the chair and not at the end of the seat or in the middle. Consider an extra back support or pillow that will fall off when you move your back and will be more of a prominent incident to improve your posture.

Avoid sitting crosslegged - We all do this and even with the best intentions we naturally end up swinging legs from time to time and ending up sitting cross legged or even crossing ankles.

Set calendar reminders to check your posture from hour to hour if need be - or at least a postit note on your screen to remind you to sit correctly. Eventually it will become second nature but while you are getting into it use the reminders.

At home it might prove more difficult as we tend to relax more at home and this is when posture is challenged. The use of back supports on chairs are good, trying sitting at the table to eat dinners.

Why not end the day with one last attempt to improve posture and make sure your mattress doesn't sag and your pillows are as comfortable and support your neck and spine. If your mattress is old and you have tried flipping it over think about investing in a new memory foam mattress.

Essential Bedroom Planning - Get A Memory Foam Mattress

Following on from our 'Sleep Advice' blog posts (which we hope you have found a great read), it is also essential to make sure the room you sleep in is as relaxed and comfortable as possible. There's no point in being relaxed and chilled out if your bedroom and sleeping space is full of vibrant colours and bright lights.

As a person, you might simply be able to drop off to sleep without any aids but as life goes one, most people find that are either still thinking of work, personal or emotional issues and therefore need all the help you can get to unwind. So lets make sure your sleeping quarters are as efficient as possible.

Keep the room clutter free - no-one wants to step over (or trip) over clothes as they start to unwind. Place clothes away and if possible, close wardrobe drawers as this will also keep the number of colours and contrasts to a minimum. If you are about to fall asleep, make your all the clothes are off the bed as even a memory foam mattress wouldn't stop the discomfort of landing on a shoe or belt buckle.

Reduce contrasting colours - Try to make sure the bedding and curtains match and are not contrasting. Also keep lampshades and light shades and any rugs to a similar colours or in a lighter shade. It doesn't matter what colour the mattress is as this is covered, but if your duvet is bright orange and your curtains lime green for example you might be in for a colourful nights sleep.

Try and reduce as much natural light through curtains and blinds. If any natural light can get in, this will have an effect on your body clock as it may assume its daylight. Sounds obvious, but even that little tear or kink in the blinds can have an effect on your mind and body clock

Finally - Turn any electrical items like TV's or stereos completely off if you need to watch these to unwind in the bedroom before sleeping, even if you have a comfortable memory foam mattress. Apart from the electrical and safety aspect of switching off appliances - any red standby lights or computer/laptop screens can still create some light and therefore add to the complication of getting off to sleep naturally.
